Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. said the local treasury has advanced P58 million for the acquisition of right-of-way for C-5 road extension to link the south and north tollways.
The project of the Department of Public Works and Highways is part of the Luzon Urban Beltway designed to decongest main thoroughfares to ensure the continuous flow of vehicular traffic for goods and services.
“We [QC government] basically just advanced them [DPWH] the money [for the right-of-way acquisition]. We made the initial advances earlier this year. But now that the project is nearing completion, most of the advances we have made had been repaid,” he said in a telephone interview.
Most of the C-5 extension to the North Luzon Expressway passes through Quezon City which stands to benefit from the project.
“We were basically involved in a sort of bridge financing,” Belmonte said.
The road right-of-way involves the clearing of shanty clusters and obstructions along C-5 and Commonwealth Avenue, connecting Tandang Sora and Luzon avenues among other sections of the project.
