In a bid to preserve the environment and protect it from further degradation, the Quezon City government has required all buildings in the city to provide within its premises eco-friendly systems and technologies.
With the approval of the “Green Building Ordinance,’’ the Quezon City government now compels land users, developers and planners to maintain building standards promoting renewable energy, energy efficient technology and environment-friendly materials.
Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. considers the approved ordinance as a landmark legislation citing that the measure highlights the importance of undertaking a green infrastructure policy to enhance the beauty of nature while saving the environment from further deterioration.
In a celebration held in the city earlier, Belmonte described the newly approved law as Quezon City’s gift to Mother Earth while stressing that the measure makes him consider the locality as “Green City.’’
The “Green Building Ordinance’’ promotes the use of renewable building materials, installation and use of insulation and energy reduction and efficiency measures, solid waste and waste water treatment schemes, incorporation of green architecture and reduction systems for greenhouse gases and other volatile organic compounds.
Belmonte noted that the law requires the city’s building officials, city planning and development office and the environmental protection and waste management department to conduct the inspection, evaluation and issuance of certification to new building construction applicants
